Fr. Bruce Farmer

Fr. Bruce Farmer, 55, died at the St. Francis Home, Tiffin, OH.He was born Dec. 7, 1951, and raised in Evansville, Ind., he was the oldest son of the Rev. Dr. Clifford and Wilma Farmer.Surviving are his parents; a sister, Shannon (Randall) Wallick; brother, Chris Farmer; and six nieces and nephews.Bruce graduated from Heidelberg College in 1973 and worked in management with the Toledo Automobile Club for four years. He studied at St. Meinrad School of Theology, ordained for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Toledo, being ordained to the diaconate March 29, 1980, and to the priesthood June 27, 1981, in Rosary Cathedral, Toledo.He served Catholic parishes at St. PeterGÇÖs, Mansfield; Sacred Heart, Fremont; St. Charles Borremeo, Toledo; St. JohnGÇÖs, Delphos; and St. MaryGÇÖs, Sandusky; and was pastor of Immaculate Conception, Marygrove, and St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Richfield Center. Most recently, he served as chaplain for the Sisters of Notre Dame Provincial Center and assisted in the chaplaincy at St. Anne Mercy Hospital in Toledo.Fr. Farmer had the opportunity to live as a monk in Trappist and Benedictine monastic communities for three years and was a Benedictine Oblate since 1994.
