Fr. Richard Gant, SOLT
Reverend Richard Gant, SOLT, who had been an associate priest of the Society and the director of our communications, passed away very peacefully with the found and co-founder at his bedside. Some months prior, knowing he had terminal cancer, Fr. Richard had planned his own funeral to the last detail. A local funeral home director had ordered and donated a simple wooden coffin. The Bishop Emeritus Most Reverend Rene Gracida officiated at the funeral Mass and personally drove a pickup truck with the coffin to Skidmore, TX where several members of the SOLT community are buried.Fr. Gant had been a convert from the Quakers in his teen years and then worked as a newspaper reporter prior to studying for the priesthood at Saint Meinrad. He had earned a doctorate in sacred theology at the Angelicum in Rome.Information provided by Fr. Paul Damian Johnston, S.O.L.T., Society of the Most Holy Trinity, Robstown, TX.
