Deacon Ronald Stier

Ronald L. Stier, 71, of Richmond, died peacefully in his sleep at his home after a two-year-long illness.He was born Aug. 6, 1937, in Richmond to Robert L. and Mary Cunningham Stier and lived here most of his life.Ron retired from Belden Corp. after working 36 years in engineering and marketing. He was an Army veteran serving from 1961-1964, with a tour in Turkey.He was a graduate of St. Andrew's Catholic School and Saint Meinrad High School. He attended Saint Meinrad College and Seminary, graduating from Aurora College in Aurora, Ill.Ron was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate of the Indianapolis Archdiocese June 28, 2008. He served as a Deacon for the Richmond Catholic Community.Ron was a very active member of the Richmond Catholic Community. He was an active member of Richmond Elks BPOE Lodge 649 and the Eastern Indiana District of the Elks.He was a member of the Richmond Amateur Radio Club, a member of the Saint Meinrad Alumni Board and past board member of the American Red Cross. He was an avid golfer and wood carver.Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Donna (Foltz) Stier; three children, Kimberly and husband Michael Laughlin of Independence, Ky., Denise and husband Vince Gray of Richmond, and Ron and wife Lori Stier of Overland Park, Kan. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Andrew and Jared Laughlin, Brady, Sarah, and Brooke Gray, and Emily and Annie Stier; his sister, Janice and husband Steve Chase of Kokomo; his brother, Dale and wife Janice Stier of Phoenix, Ariz.; nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by two children, Christopher and Andrea Stier; and his parents.Memorial contributions may be given to St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Seton Catholic Elementary and High Schools and St. Vincent DePaul Society c/o Richmond Catholic Office, 240 S.
