Joseph E. Weintraut, 78, died at Deaconess Hospital. He was born May 18, 1930 in Mount Vernon, IN, a twin of the late Lawrence Sr. and Anna (Maurer) Weintraut.Joe was preceded in death by his father in 1957, his mother in 1979, his brother, Lawrence "Bud" Weintraut Jr., his sister, Rosemary Weintraut, in 1956, and his twin sister, Joan Ashworth.Weintraut was a Class of 1948 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and had attended Saint Meinrad Seminary for two years. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and St. Matthew Catholic Church where he served on the PTA, was president of the Parish Council, and was also a Eucharist Minister. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Conservation Club, M-Club, and 20 Man Club. Joe enjoyed a career in the automotive field serving his many faithful customers. His hobbies included boating, watching all sports, and he was an avid Notre Dame football and Indiana University basketball fan.Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jennie Sue "Susie" (Fuelling) Weintraut; his five children, Jody (Mike) Pfister, Mark (Mary) Weintraut, all of Mount Vernon, Matthew Weintraut and his friend, Carol Mackey and John (Lori) Weintraut, all of Evansville, and Betsy (Greg) Pyle of Austin, Texas; his five grandchildren, Jennie and Daniel Pyle and Katie, Madison, and Luke Weintraut; and stepgrandchildren, Tara (Adam) Hubbard, Julia (Brandon) Cox, Michael and Jamie Pfister, Adam (Kellie) Miller, and Nicholas (Denise) Miller. He is also survived by his three sisters, Janie and Martha "Kitty" Weintraut and Betty Fuelling, and his sister-in -law, Pauline Weintraut, all of Mount Vernon; and many nieces and nephews.The Weintraut Family extends their sincere appreciation for all the prayers and acts of kindness during Joe's illness.
