Stephen "Steve" A. McCallister

Stephen McCallister passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013. He was born in Evansville in 1949 and graduated from Magister Noster Latin School. He graduated from Saint Meinrad College with a BA degree in 1971.He had worked variously for Marianna Interiors, St. Mary's Medical Center, Stephen Witte Associates and Image Source Photography. He was keyboardist for 15 years at Holy Rosary Church and then a choir member, cantor and psalmist at St. Mary Church downtown, the last three years he was Director of Worship at St. Mary's. He had formerly sung with the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus and the Evansville Choral Artists.Stephen was a former president of the Westside Improvement Association; an inductee in the Brute Society of the Diocese of Evansville and a Kentucky Colonel.He was an avid gardener, historian and genealogist.He was the son of Charles C. McCallister and Catherine T. McCallister who predeceased him. He is survived by two sisters, Vickie Kane (John) and Mary Anne Schmitt (Tony); two nephews, Curtis Schmitt (Shelley) and Brent Schmitt (Jaclyn); niece, Jenna Schmitt; great nephew, Liam Thomas Schmitt; and special cousin; Michael Kinch (Kris) and daughter Jacqueline.A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiated by the Rev. Stephen P. Lintzenich. Visitation will be on Monday, May 27, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the church and on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until service time. Interment will take place following at St. Joseph Cemetery. Alexander West Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
