Elmer C. Grahl

Elmer C. Grahl, 89 of Sandusky, passed away early Friday morning, June 28, 2013, at the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.Born on January 13, 1924 in Sandusky, the son of the late Emil Ferdinand and Sophia (Koehler) Grahl. Elmer was a 1942 graduate of Sandusky High School. He owned and operated the Park View Barber Shop for 49 years, retiring on January 1, 2010. Elmer was known as a gifted artist, having painted a wide variety of different scenes from throughout the local area, such as the Popcorn Wagon and his most favorite subject was the Marblehead Lighthouse, he was known to have his art work hanging throughout his barber shop. He also loved music and traveling with his wife, Paulette, especially traveling overseas to Europe, which he had done 7 different times. Elmer was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he had been a member of the choir for 53 years; member of the Sandusky Bonsai Club and the Knights of Columbus Council #546 Fourth Degree. He is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Paulette A. (Westerhold) Grahl, whom he married on August 5, 1961; a brother, James (Lois) Grahl of Sandusky; sister-in-law, Jean Grahl of Sandusky; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Irvin Grahl; and a sister-in-law, Donna Grahl. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2013, from 3-7 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.Prayers will be recited Monday morning, July 1, 2013, at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Joe Steinbauer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
