Fr. David C. Buchanan
Father David Cleburn Buchanan, a priest of the Diocese of Birmingham, passed away March 6 at the age of 58.He was born June 13, 1955 in Guntersville to Leona (Kelley) and Cleburn Buchanan and was the youngest of eleven siblings. He graduated from Guntersville High School and the University of Alabama with a doctorate degree in nursing, and was a professor of nursing at the University of Alabama before being called to the priesthood. He was ordained a priest on June 12, 1993. He served multiple parishes including St. Francis Xavier in Birmingham, St. Joseph in Florence, St. Cecilia in Jasper, and St. Peter in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Joan Sellers and Jettie Jolley, and one brother Roger Buchanan. He is survived by two brothers Rabon (Dorothy) Buchanan and Robert Buchanan; five sisters, Diane (Kermit) Mitchell, Linda (Gary) Jolley, Sue Buchanan, Janice Thomas, and Vickie Buchanan, as well as extended family. The Visitation and Funeral Mass will be at Cathedral of Saint Paul on Monday, March 10th, with Visitation beginning at 11:00 AM and the Funeral Mass at Noon.
