Landscape artist displays oil paintings, mixed media prints
Saturday, February 23- Thursday, March 28
Location: Archabbey Library Gallery
Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery, St.
Meinrad, IN, will host an exhibit of landscape paintings in oil and
mixed media prints by Philadelphia artist Clay Johnson. The exhibit
will be on display from February 23 to March 28.
Johnson paints on site, beginning his work with careful
observation of his surroundings. He explains, "I look until I see
something that moves me and then I construct a painting around that
experience." Free play of the imagination is his aim, rather than
objective reporting. Color and light are central.
After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Northern
Illinois University in 1975, Johnson moved east to study at the
Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Settling in the Manayunk
area of Philadelphia, he continues to paint and is most known for
his large paintings of Valley Forge and the Schuylkill River.
His work is found in many public and private
collections, including Blue Cross and Blue Shield, AIG Insurance
Company and Provident National Bank.
