Brothers Peduru, James and William made their solemn vow
profession on Monday on the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
They had been on a retreat the past week with Father Eugene,
reflecting on several parables. Well over 100 guests of theirs
(family, friends, coworkers and others) joined the celebration.
On Wednesday they were formally welcomed as Chapter members with
their aperitio oris, an "opening of the mouth" so to
speak, so they have a voice in Chapter decisions and

Brother Peduru will resume full-time studies as a third-year
theologian in our seminary. Part of this program calls for him to
spend Wednesday afternoons-and one weekend a month-ministering to
youth groups at USI. Brother Peduru will continue giving retreats
to oblates and other groups coming to our Guest House. He will also
continue in his responsibilities as assistant refectorian.
Brother James will continue his work as Administrative Assistant
of our One Bread, One Cup Program, and will continue his work with
our Development Office. His appointment as Assistant Sacristan
became effective yesterday, August 16; as noted previously, this
appointment will be reviewed in six months, in light of his
increased responsibilities with One Bread, One Cup and Development.
I have also asked Brother James to serve on the Abbey Press
As Coordinator of Vocations Media, Brother William will continue
his work in the Office of Monastery Vocations and our
Communications Office. He will continue collaborating on projects
such as website development and the production of our Echoes from
the Bell Tower podcast. Brother William will also be a part -time
student in our School of Theology, working over the next three
years towards an M.A. in Theology, with a specialization in
scripture. I have also asked him to be the "Announcement
Coordinator for Special Events," which will involve his working
with the solemn vow and ordination candidates and each year's
profession and priesthood jubilarians in arranging for the printing
of invitations, announcements, and prayer cards.
On Monday, three of this year's jubilarians-Fathers Timothy,
Lambert, and Meinrad-observed the actual day of their 60th anniversary of
profession. Congratulations and ad multos annos to our
Brother Maurus led a midweek retreat this week through the Guest
House: "Pray Your Way to Happiness."
On Wednesday Father Cletus celebrated his 98th birthday. 98!

A handful of our visiting seminary Benedictines have been
trickling in … Br. Theodore from Marmion Abbey and Br. Damian from
Prince of Peace Abbey. Several others are set to join us in the
next few days, as next week the seminary starts off the school year
with a spirituality week.
