Biography
Author of Heresies of the Heart (2009, Paulist Press).
Donald Capps, professor of pastoral theology, Princeton University,
says: Heresies of the Heart is a profound reflection on
the journey of our lives. Like John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's
Progress, it focuses on our self-evident need for faithful and
loving 'companions' as we journey through life, but it also
emphasizes our less self-evident need to embrace strangers in our
midst who represent our estrangement from ourselves.
The illustrations throughout the book involving persons and
experiences that feel familiar to us enable us to see how we may
use our own emotional intelligence more wisely and to envision how
we may continue to grow in emotional wisdom. The book itself is
expressive of this emotional wisdom, especially in its embodiment
of the habits of reverence, such as curiosity, respect, and
gratitude. Some books set out to be inspirational. This book is
simply and genuinely inspiring.
