Welcome to Saint Meinrad Archabbey! I am glad you have taken the time visit our Web site. I hope it offers you a unique opportunity to seek and find information about the rich tradition of monastic life. Discernment is an important part of understanding our own call to holiness. I believe that discernment might be some of the hardest work you will ever find yourself doing!

You do not have to do this alone. Finding a local discernment group or a spiritual director and community can help you in discernment. I encourage you to take the time to pray about where God might be calling you. It is quite possible that He is calling you to seek God and serve the Church as a monk of Saint Meinrad. If you have further questions or would like to talk about the possibility of arranging a visit, please contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.

In Christ,

Fr. Anthony, OSB
Vocation Director

Dear Friends in Christ, bravo for considering a religious vocation! In our day, just considering life as a monk, priest or brother takes a lot of courage and a lot of willingness to do something different from the crowd. We in the monastery vocations office want to be a resource for you, to help you learn about monastic life and to give you tools to move forward in discernment.

Pope John Paul II described vocation “as something which is entrusted by God to an individual” and said that each of us has the “marvelous task” of discovering our life’s vocation. The process of discovery, a process that involves prayer and dialogue, decision and reflection, is what we call discernment.

It is a sacred endeavor by which we seek to know something about the mystery of God’s will for our lives, and in which we offer ourselves for the glory of the One who made us. Know that you are in my prayers during this exciting journey, and in the prayers of our monastic community as well. As the Rule of St. Benedict says, “May he lead us all to everlasting life!”

Br. Christian
Associate Vocation Director

Welcome! The Rule instructs that all guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ. The opportunity to offer hospitality is one of the ways that leads the monk to God. As vocation guest master, I look forward to hosting men who are discerning monastic life.
