Workshop helps priests prepare for retirement
February 21, 2014
The first workshop in the new Encore Priests
program offered by the Institute for Priests and Presbyterates of
Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, St. Meinrad, IN, is
scheduled for April.
"Priests in their 60s: Redefining Retirement as a Spiritual
Journey" will be held April 21-24 at Saint Meinrad.
Encore Priests helps priests prepare for their transition into
retirement. Of course, priests never fully retire. By the very
nature of the sacrament of Holy Orders, they always have some form
of ministry. But how can a mature priest transition into a
retirement that is meaningful and vital?
For a priest nearing retirement age, the workshop is designed to
- plan for the transition into retirement
- make retirement meaningful and purposeful
- discover an individual's strengths and likely challenges, and
how to best engage both
- discover the 15 spiritual growth factors that can transform
retirement into an energizing time of personal and spiritual
- learn the steps to make the most of retirement.
The workshop presenter is Richard P. Johnson, PhD, founder
of the Johnson Institute for Spiritual Gerontology and
Maturing Adult Faith Formation. Nationally recognized for his
pioneering work in these areas, Dr. Johnson has presented his work
in numerous parishes, dioceses and religious communities.
