Saint Meinrad Archabbey owns and operates Abbey Press, which got its start in 1867 when the Benedictine monks purchased a small, secondhand printing press.
Although originally used for in-house printing needs, the press was soon being used for the printing needs of the outside community.
Since that time, the printing business has grown in size and expertise, and its proceeds support the monastic community in its prayer and work.
The newest product line in the printing division is Snail’s Pace, a selection of earth-friendly paper goods. The line of nature-inspired cards, gift wrap and other products are designed and printed locally and invite consumers to embrace a slower pace of life.
Other divisions of Abbey Press include the Trade Marketing division, which sells to gift and book stores, and One Caring Place, which publishes several popular series incuding CareNotes, Elf-help Books, Notes from a Monastery and Immersed in Christ.
Abbey Press also operates the on-campus Saint Meinrad Archabbey Gift Shop. The gift shop offers a wide selection of Christian books, gifts, cards, music, monk-made items and gifts for sacramental occasions—in addition to a café that serves sandwiches, soups and pies.
