The Transition Facilitation Process
As part of the Settling into Priesthood
Program, the Institute for Priests and Presbyterates provides a
trained facilitator, by phone or in the parish, during the
fall following the new priest's ordination. The
facilitator meets with the new priest, his pastor and a member
of the parish staff.
Using the questionnaires completed by the new priest, his
pastor, and parish staff member, the transition facilitator then
meets face-to-face or by telephone to help work
through any transition issues and concerns before they become

||Fr. Jerry Bell is
a native of Louisville and grew up in St. Brigid Church in the
Highlands. Fr. Jerry attended Trinity High School and
Bellarmine College in Louisville, and St. Mary's Seminary in
Baltimore. He taught religion and led retreats at St. Xavier High
School. Ordained in 1973, Fr. Bell has served in various
parish and ministry settings. Now retired, Fr. Bell has worked
with Marriage Encounter and has served on numerous
Archdiocesan councils, commissions and consultative bodies.
||Fr. Tony Ernst was
ordained a priest for the Diocese of Evansville in 1998. He
currently serves as pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul in Haubstadt, Holy
Cross in Fort Branch, and St. Bernard in Snake Run. Fr. Tony often
assists with Teens Encounter Christ and Cursillo retreats.
He serves as the Director for the Newly Ordained for the
Diocese of Evansville. He is a member of the
Advisory Board to the Institute for Priests and Presbyterates.
||Fr. David Fleck
has been a priest for the Diocese of Evansville for 33 years.
He has served his diocese in a variety of positions including an
associate pastor, a teacher in a catholic high school, vocation
director for the diocese and pastor of several different
parishes. Fr. Dave is currently the pastor of two parishes in
Vincennes, IN. Fr. Dave enjoys his ministry, particularly
working with people.
||Fr. Bernie Lutz is
a graduate of Saint Meinrad College and State University of
Innsbruck in Austria. Ordained in 1963, Fr. Lutz has held
positions in the Diocese of Evansville in parishes and at all
levels of education, from elementary to
post-secondary. He holds Masters degrees in
comparative religion (Indiana University), counseling (Indian State
University), and spirituality (Creighton University). Fr. Lutz
formerly served on the formation staff at Saint Meinrad
||Fr. Gary Padgett,
a native of Louisville, KY, has served as pastor of the Church
of the Ascension in Louisville since
2008. Fr. Padgett practiced law with the United
States Department of Justice from 1984 until 1994. He was
ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville in June
1999. Fr. Padgett serves the Archdiocese of Louisville as the
Coordinator of Formation for the First Five Years of Priesthood
and serves on the IPP Advisory Board.
||Fr. Ronald Zgunda
is a priest for the Diocese of Evansville. Ordained in 1977, Fr.
Zgunda has held various positions at both parish and diocesan
level, including diocesan vocation director for eight
years. Fr. Zgunda has been the pastor of four
parishes, including some clustered parishes. He is
currently pastor of St. Joseph in Princeton and Blessed
Sacrament in Oakland City. Fr.
