Fr. Richard Chiola

Fr. Richard Chiola is pastor of St. Cabrini
Church and director of ongoing formation for priests in the
Springfield Diocese
A native of Springfield, Fr. Chiola has served several parishes
in the Springfield Diocese, including St Thomas in Decatur, St.
Louis in Nokomis, St. Agnes in Springfield, and St. Augustine
Parish in Ashland.
Fr. Chiola is president of the National Organization for
Continuing Education of Roman Catholic Clergy (NOCERCC). For 10
years, he served on the U.S. Catholic China Bureau Board of
Trustees.
Fr. Chiola holds several post-graduate degrees, including a PhD
from St. Louis University in historical theology, as well as a
Master of Arts in human development counseling from University of
Illinois-Springfield. He has served as an assistant professor of
pastoral theology at Yale University, a Catholic chaplain at
University of Chicago, and as a mission consultant for
Hospital Sisters Health System.
He is currently an adjunct faculty member in the Department of
Psychiatry at Southern Illinois School of Medicine. He is the
author of Catholicism for the Non-Catholic (Templegate,
2006).
A psychologist and counselor, Fr. Chiola leads priest
retreats, provides sexual addiction therapy and supervises medical
doctors preparing to be psychiatrists. He has taught
pastoral theology in both Protestant and Catholic
seminaries.
