Why Saint Meinrad

Saint Meinrad Archabbey and School of Theology are situated high on a hill overlooking the town of St. Meinrad. Most of the Archabbey and school buildings are constructed of sandstone, which was quarried locally, and are Romanesque in style.

Saint Meinrad's grounds offer relaxing and peaceful surroundings. The vast campus includes several lakes, hiking trails, outdoor shrines and recreational facilities.

Thousands of men and women come to our southern Indiana campus every year to be renewed in mind and spirit by dwelling, even if only for a short time, in our contemplative environment. The relaxing surroundings are a touchstone of peace that feeds their lives, their prayer and their service to the Church.

Campus Bookstore
The Scholar Shop, located on the ground floor of Newman Hall, offers academic and religious books, supplies, and a variety of Saint Meinrad items.

Recreation and Athletics
Two gymnasiums provide areas for basketball and volleyball, weightlifting and exercise equipment. Outdoor facilities include tennis and racquetball courts, lakes for fishing, and paths and rural roads for walking, running and biking. National and state parks for hiking and camping are nearby.

Concerts, performances and lectures are scheduled throughout the year in St. Bede Theater, the Church Leadership Center, and other campus venues. The UnStable, a student-operated pub on campus, provides a place to relax and enjoy camaraderie.

Archabbey Library
The Archabbey Library offers patrons a spacious and inviting environment for study and research. The library contains more than 170,000 volumes. The library also receives more than 300 periodicals. A large microfilm collection supplements the bound periodical section. Exhibits of artwork or special subjects are regularly displayed in the library gallery, where public readings are hosted as well.

Books and periodicals are in open stacks for ready access. Computer workstations with access to printers and scanners are available and allow patrons to connect easily to the Internet. Dataports installed in the library offer Internet convenience for laptop computer users.

Computer/Network Access
Access to the Internet is provided through the campus network. Network access is available through direct hookups (available in some rooms) and dial-up access. Computers, printers and network access also are available in Student Productivity Centers and in the library.

Health Services
Archabbey Health Service provides professional health care services. A physician is on call when needed. to residents at all times. Local hospitals are nearby for serious illness or injury.

Abbey Press Gift Shop
Located on the Saint Meinrad grounds, Abbey Press Gift Shop offers inspirational books, music, collectibles and gifts for special occasions. Many items are featured in the Abbey Press catalogs. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
