Educational Resources
Archabbey Library
The Archabbey Library contains more than 170,000 volumes. While supporting the research interests of the faculty, the library maintains a broad collection to serve the School of Theology and the Archabbey.
The library offers its patrons a spacious and inviting environment for study and research. The library provides wireless Internet access as well as Ethernet connections for laptop use.
The library also receives more than 300 periodicals in print and subscribes to databases that provide full-text online access to hundreds of additional periodicals. A microfilm collection supplements other periodical holdings.
As a member of the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana, or PALNI, patrons can obtain books and journal literature for research from several other Indiana schools.
The MacCauley Rare Books Room contains more than 2,000 books and a number of manuscripts published primarily before 1700. The library also houses the Archabbey Archives.
Marten Homiletics Lab
Homiletics has long been a priority at Saint Meinrad. Homiletics labs include two new chapel-like rooms with remote-control video cameras controlled from a centrally located television control room, facilitating the videotaping of students while practicing preaching and liturgical presiding skills. The control room also contains digital tape decks, a digital editing system, duplicating facilities and more.
The facility also includes three seminar rooms equipped with a large monitor, facilities for video/DVD projection, and Internet connection, as well as nearby practice rooms containing a remote-control monitor/VCR/camera set-up, allowing students to practice preaching and other presentations at any time of the day.
Mader Learning Center
The Mader Learning Center is available to assist students in mastering both fundamental and advanced reading and writing skills. The director of the Center and trained student assistants offer skills development in both individual settings and interactive learning groups.
Special programs are designed for students whose second language is English. The Center also provides computer software, assessment tools and other resources to help students develop English language skills. The Mader Learning Center is open during the fall and spring semesters and January Interterm.
Programs for English as a Second Language (ESL)
Students are required to achieve an acceptable score on an English proficiency exam before beginning theological studies.
Meeting that goal may require a semester or summer of intensive English study before being admitted to formal theological studies at Saint Meinrad. Even after a seminarian begins theological studies, a weekly tutorial may be required of the student to continue improving his facility with English.
Theological Education Association of Mid-America
Saint Meinrad School of Theology has joined with four Protestant seminaries to form a consortium for the exchange of ideas and ecumenical experiences. TEAM-A promotes a better understanding among Christians and cooperation among its five member seminaries:
Asbury Theological Seminary
Wilmore, KY
Lexington Theological Seminary
Lexington, KY
Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary
Louisville, KY
Saint Meinrad School of Theology
St. Meinrad, IN
Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
Louisville, KY
Through the January Interterm, mutual library privileges and other programs, each seminary shares the creativity and richness of its religious tradition and community life. The policy on cross-registration for courses at TEAM-A schools during the regular academic year is available through the Office of Theology Administration.
