Month In Pictures: January 2017

by Krista Hall

January has been a fairly grey month here at Saint Meinrad, but the looks on people's faces in the Month in Pictures are far from grey.

January Interterm classes began on the 9th and I photographed Fr. Harry's Catholic art class painting, the wellness class visiting infirmed monks and learning CPR, and Fr. Julian's cooking class.

These classes give students an opportunity to grow and learn in areas they don't normally focus on during the semester, and I think it's evident from the pictures that the classes help students build community with monks, faculty and classmates.

In the monastery, Fr. Rupert Ostdick, OSB, died on January 14. The funeral liturgy and burial were held the following Tuesday. With death, there is often times new life. Less than a week after Fr. Rupert's death, the monastery welcomed a new novice, Joseph Wagner, and Novice Joshua Leeuw made first vows, taking the name Br. Elias.

Enjoy this selection of pictures that show life on the Hill in January.
