Dr. Kevin Hart to give Thomas Lecture

Tuesday, March 11
Time: 7 p.m. Central Time
Location: St. Bede Theater, on Saint Meinrad campus

Pic _news _Dr _Kevin _HartDr. Kevin Hart, professor of Christian studies at the University of Virginia, will present the annual Thomas Lecture on Philosophy and Theology at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in St. Meinrad, IN.

The lecture will be held on Tuesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. Central time in the St. Bede Theater. Hart's lecture is titled "Phenomenology and Catholic Theology."

In recent years, Catholic philosophers, especially in France, have turned to phenomenology as a way to articulate the faith. What do these people say? What benefits come from developing a phenomenology of Christianity or even a phenomenological theology? And what drawbacks are there?

The lecture will briefly refer to Jean-Louis Chrétien, Michel Henry, Jean-Yves Lacoste, Jean-Luc Marion and perhaps others; and a new way of thinking of phenomenology and Christianity will be proposed.

Prior to his position at the University of Virginia, Dr. Hart was chair of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame. He has received substantial academic honors from many institutions, has published widely in the areas of continental philosophy, and is also a published poet.

The Thomas Lecture is made possible by an endowment established in honor of the late George and Mary Thomas and the late Fr. Kieran Conley, OSB. The lecture provides an opportunity for students and faculty at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology to explore issues in philosophy and theology.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Parking is available at the St. Bede, Guest House and student parking lots. Saint Meinrad operates on Central time. For more information, call Mary Jeanne Schumacher at (812) 357-6501 during business hours.
