Institute for Priests and Presbyterates in Action: Fr. John Appiah Fr. John Appiah knew, even before he moved to the United States from Ghana in 1986, that he wanted to be a priest. Early thoughts leaned toward joining a religious order to be a missionary priest, but an invitation from the bishop of Knoxville and a visit to Saint Meinrad changed that course.
Today Fr. John is a priest at Notre Dame Parish in Greenville, TN, and has served the diocese as a chaplain, teacher, parish administrator and parochial vicar.

About the Institute for Priests and Presbyterates
A newly ordained priest or a soon-to-be-appointed pastor has lots of questions about his new responsibilities. Many of these new issues aren’t taught in the seminary: parish budgets, volunteer boards, parish revitalization, the list goes on and on.
Since 2005, Saint Meinrad’s Institute for Priests and Presbyterates (IPP) has been offering programs to help new priests and new pastors make a successful transition into their roles as your parish leaders. Programs are being developed to help meet the needs that are surfacing in today’s parishes, such as helping international priests minister successfully in this country.
A grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. gave the Institute for Priests and Presbyterates its start, but now Saint Meinrad is establishing an endowment to ensure that your priests get the ongoing formation they need.
