The faculty of Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology has approved a new Certificate in Liturgical Music program to be offered either independently as an 18-credit certificate or in conjunction with a Master of Arts in theology.

This program, which does not require an audition, is geared both toward classically trained musicians who nevertheless lack a strong foundation in liturgical studies and active musicians looking to develop their musical background in the context of liturgical theology.

Coursework will be offered in both in-person and online formats to accommodate the diverse interests and needs of students. This first-of-a-kind program at Saint Meinrad builds on our unique historical and institutional strengths in a forward-looking and interdisciplinary way.

The program’s curriculum:

  • Introduction to Liturgy and Sacraments or Liturgical Theology (3 credits)
  • Chant of the Roman Church or Sacred Music since Trent (3 credits)
  • Theology of Music or Liturgical Music Practicum (3 credits)
  • Any course in Sacramental/Liturgical Theology category (3 credits)
  • 6 additional credits in electives in sacred music or liturgy
