Via Crucis

Monday, March 25, 2024

On Friday, March 15th, the Office of Hispanic and Latino Ministry hosted their first Via Crucis, or Stations of the Cross, at Saint Meinrad. Staff, seminarians, and the Latino community gathered near the Guest House for the procession. Dcn. Rolando Perez and Dcn. Michael Willey led the group while the seminarians took turns reading the stations in Spanish.

Between each station, the Stabat Mater was sung. The community concluded the Via Crucis with the song Perdona a Tu Pueblo, Señor with guitar and trumpet provided by seminarians Ben Seago and Ben Keating. Alfonso from Dale, IN, remarked that he enjoyed hearing the church bells throughout the procession because it reminded him of his hometown in Mexico.

Afterward, the group headed to Anselm Dining Room to enjoy homemade Mexican food that’s traditionally made for Lent and was provided by the community. There was ceviche, chile rellenos, and tacos de nada to name a few of the food options that were on the menu. Everyone enjoyed the food and the gathering.

Maria from the Dale community mentioned that she didn’t realize that it was late when she and her husband, Guillermo left. Maria commented that she always feels a sense of peace whenever she is at Saint Meinrad. The event was a success, and the Office of Hispanic and Latino Ministry plans to keep celebrating Via Crucis at Saint Meinrad in the coming years.
