Biography

Dr. Marx joined the faculty in 2014. He teaches courses on liturgy and sacraments in the seminary, the graduate theology program, and the permanent deacon formation program. He also teaches electives on culture, inculturation, and interreligious dialogue. Before coming to Saint Meinrad, he taught undergraduate theology courses at the University of Notre Dame.

Dr. Marx studies the history, sociology, and theology of liturgical participation, with an emphasis on the virtue of authenticity and the relationship between liturgy and justice. He is the author of Authentic Liturgy: Minds in Tune with Voices, which won an honorable mention in the liturgy category of the 2021 Catholic Media Association Book Awards. He has published articles in Liturgy and GIA Quarterly, along with chapters in books from Liturgical Press and New City Press.

Dr. Marx is a member of the American Academy of Religion, the Catholic Theological Society of America, and the College Theology Society. He currently serves the North American Academy of Liturgy as treasurer and academy committee member.
