Jesus, Our Jubilee | Jubilee Year Blog Post #12

Well, friends. We are here. Another ending, which, through the eyes of faith, is really a beginning.

We entered into the Jubilee Year of Hope through the themes of pilgrimage, homecoming, freedom, family, and forgiveness. And now that the Jubilee Year is at an end, what do we do?

We live Jubilee. We make the hallmarks of this year the lens through which we see the world.

Jubilee is not just an ideal we read about in Scripture. Nor is it merely a tradition that comes around every 25 years in the Church. Jubilee is what we are made for – it is a restoration of the abundant life, a participation in the life of the Trinity. In a state of Jubilee, our freedom is restored, we return home, reconcile with family, and rest in the goodness and provision of God.

In essence, Jubilee is a foreshadowing of heaven.

As we anticipate the coming of Christ – both at Christmas and at the end of time – we long for Him to bring about a Jubilee in our heart and in our world.

And the best part?

He doesn’t just come to bring the Jubilee. He is the Jubilee.

Truthfully, He is so much more than the Jubilee – that is merely the taste, the shadow, the sign that points to the fulfillment in and through Jesus Christ. He is the only One who restores our freedom, the One who leads us home, the One who reconciles the world through Himself, the One who gives us true rest.

So how can we limit Jubilee to a year?

Let our longing for freedom, reconciliation, peace, rest, and hope continue to lead us deeper into the heart of Jesus. May this next year be filled with the fruits of the Jubilee Year of Hope, dear friends. And let us continue to live Jubilee in our lives – Amen!
