Ministry Moments: July 2025 Updates From Our Partner Parishes

Thursday, July 10, 2025

“At Pax Christi, our young adult group has been hard at work organizing events for young adults. We’ve discussed starting a Catholic movie club as well as starting our new study on the Rosary. Afterwards, we pray the Rosary then celebrate with ice cream. Today some of our young adults went downtown and passed out food donations to the less fortunate.”

”We are excited to have our FOCUS missionaries in town visiting their family for the summer. We have a family with four daughters and two of them are current FOCUS missionaries. A third had also served the church in this ministry but recently 'retired' to get married and is expecting a child. Fr. Jim recently had lunch with them and we are hosting them at Mass next weekend. We are hopeful they will be able to attend our young adult summer picnic/BBQ.”

“One of our young adults took the lead to have a small group study about the Rosary.”

“We recently finished up a 5-part young adult speaker series and it was incredible! So many participants and so many great connections made!!!”

“Recently, I had a meaningful conversation with a co-worker about the young adults in our parish. During our discussion, we touched on the Burmese young adult community. Although they are organized separately, I realized they may not be receiving the same level of spiritual nourishment as the larger BG Catholic young adult group. This led us to reflect on how we might be more intentional and inclusive in inviting them to journey with us in faith. As a result of this conversation, and with the support of our partner parish, we now have two to three Burmese young adults actively involved in our planning team. It’s been a hopeful beginning, and I pray that we continue to grow in hospitality and openness—reaching out to those who may feel spiritually disconnected, so that together we may deepen our faith and build a more unified community.”

“The Shield & Shamrock young adult group has some very passionate leaders, and they are excited to plan lots of family-oriented events. Their penchant for service is interlaced into all that they plan. It is exciting to see how this group continues to grow and reach out. Our Hispanic young adult group participated in a diocesan soccer tournament and took home the trophy! Go St. Patrick Church! The pictures show how much fun (and sweating) they all experienced. Sports and competition can be such great binding tools.”

“We hosted our turn for the young adult speaker series on Wednesday, June 25, and we had an incredible turn out! The talk was amazing from Fr. Alex, and there was a lot of fellowship both before and after. It was so great, I had to start kicking people out at 10:30 p.m.!”

“I got the opportunity to meet with a young adult who has been away from the faith for 16 years. She spoke about her journey and how the Lord has moved her heart to come back and be fully present in the Catholic Church. She is going through OCIA and is part of our core team now. She brings a unique and beautiful experience to a group that needs one.”

“Attached are pictures from our Young Adult Basketball nights, which happens twice a month. There is a regular attendance of up to 15 players. This started when a parishioner approached our pastor looking for a space for their young adult children and friends. Showing these young adults hospitality and getting them into the parish space is so important. Some have even volunteered at parish events recently. Also attached are pictures from the Diocese's recent Bible and Brews event. This specific session was the Synodal Listening Session where young adults came together to talk about the concerns for our Diocese and what we hope the future holds for us.”

“I was sent to Echo Ministries in Louisiana to serve as a Missionary for 12 days and learned the depths of Theology of the Body. The young adults participated in a diocese wide Young Adult Summer Series discussing many topics. Several young adults and parish partners went to Sox Park to celebrate Pope Leo, celebrate Mass, and hear a special message from Pope Leo for young people! Lastly, several young adults that serve in our parish music ministry spent time with a Catholic speaker and song writer Chris Bray for our Pentecost Mission.”
