Saint Meinrad Archabbey

A catholic monastery devoted to the teachings of St. Benedict

January 24-30, 2017

It was a quiet week last week. Many of the monk-seminarians were away on retreat with their respective seminary classes.

Father Thomas gave the retreat to the 4th Theology students at our motherhouse, Einsiedeln Abbey in Switzerland, and they returned on Thursday.

Classes started today, Monday, January 30. All of our visiting Benedictine brothers have officially returned: Brothers Theodore and Antony-Maria from Marmion Abbey, Br. Damien from Prince of Peace Abbey, Br. Cassian from Subiaco Abbey, Brother Stephen from St. Anselm Abbey, Brother Linus from St. Bernard Abbey and Brother Luke from St. Benedict's Abbey (Atchison, KS).

For the most part, Brothers David (Monastere de l'Incarnation in Togo), Cajetan and Justin (Abbaye de l'Ascension de Danyi Dzobegan in Togo) stay with us throughout the year.

We have six jubilarians this year. Fathers Gavin and Germain celebrate, respectively, 70 and 60 years of monastic profession, Fathers Sebastian and Aurelius 60 years of ordination, and Fathers Matthias and Ephrem 50 years of ordination. We will celebrate both jubilees of profession and of priesthood on Sunday, May 28.

A crew is here repairing/replacing storm windows around the Archabbey Church and painting the window frames.

Have a good week, and be the light of Christ for those around you as you see the light of Christ in them.

Each day the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey write another page in the long history of Benedictine monks throughout the world. Here are recent events chronicled at Saint Meinrad.
